Vintage Airstreams were built with brazier head solid rivets. Today, brazier head rivets are very hard to find and nearly obsolete. We're having them made again for our customers who need the right size and shape head for doing proper repair of Airstream exteriors.

The original rivets had 1/8" bodies, but we're having the rivets made with slightly larger diameter bodies. The larger body is perfect for use in "old holes" that are no longer their original size or shape. This is very important with buck rivets in order to get a strong and watertight hold.

Although our rivets have slightly larger bodies than the originals, the heads of our rivets are the same size and shape as the originals. In order to have the heads of our 5/32" rivets be the same size as the original 1/8" brazier head (AN455) rivets, we are using modified (AN456) brazier head rivets.

We are currently selling our solid rivets in the soft 1100F alloy used on most Airstreams. We are offering them in 1/4" length and 1/2" length. Because you need to allow .156" of the rivet for forming the shop head on the back of the sheet, 1/4" is the correct length for clinching up to .094" of material. If you need to clinch more material, choose the 1/2" rivets and cut to length for your application using our rivet cutters.

Proper Rivet Length = total thickness of all layers begin clinches + clinch allowance.

Clinch allowance: .156 to .234"
Minimum shop head diameter: .200"
Minimum shop head height: .050"
Correct drill bit for preparing work hole: #20
