We love FanTastic vents. They're extremely well designed, moving a lot of air in or out of your trailer quietly. And they are of the highest quality in both materials and construction. The only problem we've had with them up to now was that they didn't have a model that blended in well with vintage trailers.

Normally you see FanTastic vents with a raised dome on top rather than a flat lid like the older trailers have. And they often have the operator knob sticking too far into the headroom of low-ceiling vintage trailers. Even worse, if you have an aluminum color trailer, the white vent base sticking up above the trailer is a dead giveaway you've changed something.

We're committed to high quality, vintage-appropriate restorations and modifications. So to meet our mission, we worked with FanTastic to come up with a vent that meets the special needs of vintage travel trailer owners. We think you'll love the results.

Our FanTastic vents have durable flat lids . The flat lids looks a lot more like the old flat Hehr aluminum vent lids than the more modern dome lids do. And they extend a mere 3" above the trailer roof. FanTastic's strong Lexan or ASA plastic polymers will never wear out or break.

In addition, FanTastic has shortenened the up/down crank knob so it fits closer to the ceiling. That little detail is important with low vintage ceilings. You'll be much less likely to bump your head on the knob.

And best of all, FanTastic has made us vent bases in gray color plastic rather than their standard white. That means the parts above the roof line are gray, like the aluminum skin of Airstreams, Avions and many other classics. (The interior color can be off-white or gray).

If that's not enough, to top it all off they've also manufactured some units with flat opaque gray lids to match the bases! If you want to match the old aluminum Hehr lids as closely as possible, go with the all gray option. Of course, we offer the lids in translucent white if you'd rather go that route.

And you have even more options...
Choose whether you want a thermostat. Our three fan models have a 3-speed fan that can be set to blow in or out. The model 5000RBT and the model 6000RBTA each add a thermostat. With the thermostat, the fan will operate only when the thermostat calls for cooler air. Once the thermostat is satisfied, the fan shuts off automatically. It is designed to deliver more consistent temperatures. Perfect for use when you leave your pets behind or while sleeping.

Choose whether you want a rain sensor with a motor that automatically closes the lid when the rain starts. It then re-opens when the rain stops. It's definitely the deluxe option! The 6000RBTA is the only model with the motorized rain sensor. The 6000RBTA also has the thermostat like the 5000RBT. The rain sensor is not available without the thermostat.

Choose your interior color. Most people choose an off-white interior, but an all gray interior is available if you would like that appearance.

Choose your ceiling garnish shape. We offer two different interior ceiling garnishes. One is slightly curved to fit curved ceilings. One is flat for trailers that have flat ceilings. The curved garnish curves up 5/8" in the center, to cover up to a 5/8" ceiling curve over a side-to-side distance of 14-1/2". It curves only in the front and back and has no curve on the sides. Replaced Original Vent in 68 Airstream	May 6, 2010

I just finished the installation of the new fan and it works awesome. But the installation went slow, it took me 5 1/2 hours to remove and prep the rough opening in my 1968 17' Airstream Caravel. The old vent, as I suspected was round and so was the exterior and interior aluminum. Very scary putting a sawzall to your Airstream, both inside and out. Tried tin snips, but found power better.

I highly suggest dealing with some of the headaches of removal and installation. THE FAN WORKS AWESOME!!! AND LOOKS GREAT TOO!!!

Replacement for original 1966 Airstream vent/fan	July 21, 2009

Once I removed all of the original vent/fan (which I was able to do from the inside - I could stand up through the 14"x14" hole in the roof - the installation went very smoothly. I did rent a scaffold so I could drill holes and apply sealer from the top. My wife insisted on the scaffold. I am very pleased. The fan is so quiet compared to the 43 year old fan.

Installed two in 1964 Airstream	January 6, 2009

I replaced both the original fans in my 1964 Overlander with these - one with the rain sensor and thermostat, and the other the plainest fan model. Installation was straightforward although I ended up using quite a few stainless steel sheet metal screws to hold it to the roof instead of the supplied four. I also added sealant around the edge of the foam gasket.

I did find that the curved ceiling trim pieces were not right for my only-very-slightly-curved ceiling. My mistake.

Anyway, they work really, really well. I put them to a very harsh test right after installation, taking them to Burning Man in 2008, where they were subjected to high winds while cranked fully open, rain, ultrafine and sticky dust, and of course, lots of heat. They did a great job keeping the interior temperature down to ambient. I never ran the A/C and was comfortable the whole time. And they ran at least 18 hours a day for 10 days in very dusty conditions without any noise or problems. Recommended!

I installed a Fantastic-fan vent in a 1964 Shasta 16SC. It looks GREAT! Has the low profile lid in a white color that lets lots of light in, even when the vent is closed. Installation was easy...I added some new framing around the existing hole for support and it fit perfectly in the old HEHR vent hole (14" x 14"). Just had to remove the old vent, clean up the old sealant, and it dropped right in. I somehow overlooked the 12V only requirement, although it was plastered all over the instructions. So, one blown fuse later, all is well! I highly recommend this fan for vintage trailers!

Fantastic model 6000RBTA	October 31, 2007

Purchased two of these units along with one #900 model (non-motorized), all gray lids. The units looked good in the box and look even better installed. Installation instructions were easy to follow and took less than an hour per fan. Inside trim frame barely met the outside frame to make a neat finished fan. I would have liked to see the inside frame a 1/2" deeper to overlap with the outside frame better. All in all, they look awesome and they are very quiet. Haven't seen the rain sensor work yet, but the auto open and close is a cool feature. I have fantastic fans in my other RV and they are very reliable and quiet.
