This is a 1-wire marker light. That means the lead coming off the light is positive. The ground is completed by making contact with one of the two base mounting holes. If your trailer uses the aluminum skin/shell of your trailer as the common ground, you will complete the circuit from base to trailer skin effortlessly with the mounting screws. However, if your trailer uses a separate dedicated ground wire rather than the common ground of the shell, you will need to connect your ground wire to one of the two mounting screws. This can be done by simply wrapping it around the screw, or crimping a ring terminal to the end of your ground wire.
