How Shipping is Calculated

Starting in 2024, all orders will have discounted shipping.

We like to be transparent about shipping. Whenever possible, we estimate the true cost and pass it along rather than hiding it by inflating our product prices. However, we know that high shipping (even if it is the actual cost) can be a real turnoff.

To help share the cost, we now discount shipping based on the cost of your order. The shipping discount will usually be equal to about 5% of the value of the merchandise in your order, and can even result in free shipping in some cases.

Hypothetical Examples
  • Example #1: You put $200 of merchandise in your shopping cart. We estimate the actual cost of shipping at $12.23. Behind the scenes, our system calculates that a $200 order earns a $10 discount (5% of $200) on your shipping charge. So instead of seeing $12.23 as your shipping quote, you see only $2.23 as your shipping quote.

  • Example #2: You put $250 of merchandise in your shopping cart. We estimate the actual cost of shipping at $11.77. Behind the scenes, our system calculates that a $250 order earns a $12.50 discount (5% of $250) on your shipping charge. So instead of seeing $11.77 as your shipping quote, you see $0.00 (Free Shipping) as your shipping quote.

Helpful Details
  • If you see more than one rate quoted at checkout, the entire discount is shown applied to each method for comparison.

  • A few products may not qualify for shipping discounts because some manufacturers do not allow us to offer free or discounted shipping. In those cases, we will clearly mark those products so you are aware of the special conditions.

In Conclusion

We believe this discounting system is fairest for all our customers regardless of how heavy or large their package is. It is also fairest to US, Canadian, and international customers who have very different costs of shipping the same items.
