This ready-to-ship 50-3/8" x 21-1/8" x 3-7/8" tank is typically used to hold gray water. It is commonly used with vintage Airstreams, but can be used in any trailer that allows for its size.
We designed this tank to allows you to install a modern 16 gallon tank (or even 2 tanks for 32 gallons) below your floor without major reconfiguration of your chassis frame. What's great is that in most cases, these tanks slide right between the rungs on your ladder frame and do not hang below the belly pan!
The tank comes with four (4) polyethylene fittings welded into the body of the tank. Each welded fitting is a 1-1/2" female threaded hole that protrudes from the tank slightly, allowing a 1-1/2" MPT pipe fitting to screw into it. The 1-1/2" size is ideal for gray water and air venting. See the diagram photo for the placement of the fittings.
The four locations allow for a few different plumbing alignments. When it arrives, you will notice that all the fittings are closed with membranes so the tank is sealed up. The membranes are molded right into the fitting. You can choose which openings you want to use in your trailer. To open any threaded fitting, simply drill or cut the membrane out of the center of it. If you leave them closed, they will never leak. We do not further customize this tank.
Here's an example of what a pre-installed fitting looks like with the membrane intact. The membrane is thinner than the tank wall and can be drilled out or cut out with a utility knife. The photo shows a 1/2" fitting but all sizes of fittings are similar.
